Percival Farquhar Archive: research, technical processing and dissemination of the collection

This report aims to present the research process for organizing Percival Farquhar's personal archive, explaining the methodological choices for the technical processing and dissemination strategies of this collection, with the publication of the analytical inventory. The research was based on a bibliographical survey of monographs, articles, dissertations and academic theses, also using historical and institutional administrative documents present in the collection of the National Library and in the General Archive of the National Library. The methodology covered studies of archival and library literature, given the specificity of the documentation, initially made up of personal archive documents and later added to a collection of documents produced about the holder. The works published in Heymann and Nedel (2018) and in Travancas, Rouchou and Heymann (2013) contributed to reflection on the understanding and uses of personal files. Oliveira (2012) added the practical dimension to the description of the archives and Lacerda (2008) contributed to the understanding of the place of photographs in the archive. Percival Farquhar (1864-1953) was an American businessman who worked in the electricity, ports, railroads, and steel industries in Latin America. His personal archive consists of five linear meters, around 1,600 documents, mostly textual, covering the first half of the 20th century.
