The The “Archive” of the History Institute from the Faculty of Humanities: Progress in the organization of its documents

Abstract

This article proposes to report the progress achieved, presenting a state of affairs on the organization of the History Institute Archive of the Faculty of Humanities of the Universidad del Nordeste (Chaco/Argentina), carried out in the period 2022-2024. For this work, in order to address the organization of documents, we formed an interdisciplinary team, beginning with the identification of some types of documents and the organization of a provisional classification chart, which allowed us to start the sanitization and arrangement of documents. Beyond the desire to organize the archive, the task is part of a larger project that seeks to reconstruct the origins of the Faculty of Humanities and, within it, those of the History Institute, founded with the purpose of forming teams of students, graduates and teachers. As methods, this account of the experience is based on a case study, and as results, situations related to the identification and origin of the documentation were recorded, aiming at the reordering of the documents, the reconstruction of the flow of information in the founding period of the Institute and the interpretation of the relationship of these documents with those produced in other Institutes of the Faculty of Humanities at the time.

Author Biographies

Fernanda Martendal, National University of Northeast

PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Master in Information Sciences from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC/Brazil), Archivist (UFSC/Brazil) and University Professor in Archival Science (UNNE). Teacher at the Department of Information Sciences of the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE), in the subjects “User Studies” and “Marketing of products and services in information units”. Member of the research projects of the UNNE “Documentary management and archiving processes in public educational institutions of the initial, primary, secondary and higher levels of the city of Resistencia” and “Documentary heritage in public institutions of Corrientes and Resistencia. Identification, analysis, valuation, access and dissemination”.

Josefina Cargnel, National University of Northeast

Professor of History graduated from the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE) and PhD in History from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC). She is a teacher-researcher and Head of Practical Works with exclusive dedication in the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities - UNNE in the chair “Introduction to History” of the History Faculty and is also Adjunct in charge of the chair “History of Institutions” in the Degree in Information Sciences of the same Faculty. She was part of and directed university extension projects in collaboration with other institutions of the Province of Chaco aimed at documentary evaluation and organization of archives. She participates in and directs research projects accredited by the SGCyT - UNNE related to research in and on archives of educational institutions, among others. His current research project is entitled Archives, documents and History in the origins of the Institute of History, framed within PI H02/22 Public uses of the past in the NEA: policies, actors, institutions and knowledge about the region accredited by the Secretariat. She is also currently directing the research project “Documents, archives and memories. Organization and enhancement of the Archive of the Institute of History of the Faculty of Humanities of the UNNE”. Institute of History. Faculty of Humanities - UNNE January to December 2024 Resolution N*2024 - 327CD-HUM that seeks to organize part of the documentary heritage of the Institute.

Maisa Angelina, National University of Northeast

Professor and graduate in History and Specialist in Regional History from the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE). She holds a PhD in History from the National University of Córdoba (UNC). She teaches at the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities- UNNE in the chair of Contemporary History XIX century of the careers of Professor and Bachelor of History and is also a Research Assistant at the Institute of History of the same faculty. She has participated in research projects accredited by the SGCyT-UNNE. She is currently part of the project “Documents, archives and memories. Organization and enhancement of the Archive of the Institute of History of the Faculty of Humanities of the UNNE”, directed by Dr. Josefina Cargnel. She was also a fellow of the SGCyT-UNNE and a CONICET doctoral fellow for the period 2021- 2023.
