Information environment of archives: the aesthetic emergency in the information society

Abstract

The discussions about work conditions in information environment of information units, especially archives, overcame the dialogues in professional scope and have acquired, a few years ago, the political basis of due attention to its scientific and pragmatic relevance as a social phenomenon. In this article, it is searched to reflect about the quality of archive as an information environment in its structural dimension, which conjugates workplace and access to information of cultural value. The research strategies used were descriptive and bibliographic (from the point of view of the objectives), with qualitative approach. In relation to the results, it is called attention to the emergency of the functional and aesthetic quality of archives because, as work environments, they need favorable conditions for the work of different professionals like the archivist and the archive technician. As a mechanism of cultural diffusion, it is required an improvement in infrastructure to a better attendance to users. It is concluded that the archives, as well as any other information unit need to dispose of a suitable layout, in order to captivate their users for beyond the treated material in their collection. After all, they are the prominent link between the work reason and those for whom are projected the results in the context of information units. In turn, the users are cognitively influenced by their propensity to the beautiful.
