The research focused on the documentation of the first Rector of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. It is proposed the study and investigation of the Private Archives of Professor Dr. João David Ferreira Lima. Searching about the history lived by the main character led him to study his private archive to know what his documents told about his life, his works, his thoughts and actions at the time of the creation of UFSC (1960). It became necessary to gather the other documents that form this archive since the information about the first rector of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and creator of the same, were in other collections. The preservation and preservation of the memory of documentary heritage constitutes the history of the University in the mapping of its collections. Relevance of the study on this Private Archive is that its documentary heritage represents the memory of the development of the education of the society of Santa Catarina, traces the evolution of the thought and achievements of that society. It is the legacy of the past to the present. To give knowledge of this legacy to the university community and later, to all who want to know, is to preserve and preserve the patrimonial memory of UFSC.Downloads
