Challenges in the descriptive representation of the Nélida Piñon Personal Collection at the Cervantes Institute library in Rio de Janeiro

An experience report on the challenges faced by the Nélida Piñon Personal Collection Cataloguing Project team with regard to descriptive representation, in order to meet the normative and technical requirements of the collective catalogue of the Cervantes Institute Library Network (RBIC). Through research, it was found that in both national and international literature on archives and personal collections, there are few studies on cataloguing with an extensive level of detail that takes into account the specificities present in personal collections, such as marginalia, one of the singularities of the collection present in the documents that reveal traces of Nélida Piñon's literary and personal life. The descriptive representation of these clues occupies a prominent place within the project, as it aims to make the personal collection of writer Nélida Piñon accessible to society. To this end, the cataloguing sheets contain a transcription of the handwritten dedications, among other aspects, accompanied by digitised images of the covers and respective dedications of each document. Thus, a solution was sought to adapt the particularities of the collection to RBIC regulations, while preserving the traces left by Nélida Piñon.
